Take a second to think about where you are in your life right now.
Really take some time to think about these. You have made choices that lead to all these conditions you currently experience. For those of you who are saying to yourself, "Life is great, I wouldn't change a thing." Thank you for your time, the rest of this post is not for you.
Those of you wanting to commit to a change in any of these areas of your life, this might help.
There are two reactions to life. The people who choose to change their conditions and the people who choose not to change their conditions. If you are choosing to make a change, your mindset can have a major effect on the success of your decision. This choice has to be consciously made until it is a permanent habit.
Some people are professional victims, (the left side) and will resist any personal accountability (the right side) for their choices and their situations. Be careful around these people. That Victim mindset is infectious and can drag you down. You can probably think of a few people who are like this. I'd even bet you've had that mindset in many situations. I know I have. I've pinned my own problems on somebody else, claimed ignorance, and did nothing about something.
There comes a moment of truth where you will have to choose between these two mindsets. This is how the person who SEEKS REALITY solves a problem in their life. Adapted from The ONE Thing by Gary Keller.
What is the reality of the situation?
Seek out the truth about what's going on. Feeling and emotions aren't truth, they are reactions. What are the facts, the figures, the details about your situation? Don't give up until you find these. Once you do, the rest of these decision-making steps become easier.
Do you accept this reality?
Now that you have the facts and figures in front of you, you must mentally accept this is the situation in front of you. Removing the emotion around some decisions can make the choice crystal clear to many of us.
Who can do something to change the situation?
You. You are the only one who can change this situation. Sure, there are others who can help you make your change, but it ultimately boils down to you. This could be a personal change, a localized change, or a global pandemic you are trying to stop, the answer is the same. Don't be the innocent bystander in your life. (You) Go DO something.
What can I do about the situation?
Think through all the possible solutions. Make your list as long as you can. Go for 25 different potential solutions. You'll start to see a pattern, some solutions will be very similar. Group those together. Eliminate the improbable solutions as you go. By knocking out improbable and combining similar, you'll be able to boil it down to the ONE Thing you can do to change your situation for the better.
When are you going to DO this?
Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Do it now. The longer you wait, the worse it will get. GO. Thank you for reading to the very end of my post. GO DO IT.
